All-Round Weighlifting | Eric Todd
One of the things I love about competing in all-round weightlifting is the postal competition. This is where you gather regionally and do your lifts in front of a certified official, and then the results are sent to a central location to be compiled and tallied. This allows you to compete against people nationally, and at times across the globe, without spending a boat-load of money on travel.
In the past few months I had the opportunity to participate in both national and global postal competitions. In June, I competed in the 2nd Quarter National Postal. I was pleased with my lifting, and ended up in the top spot by most weight lifted as well as adjusted points. In August, I competed in the IAWA World Postal. I lifted well again. When compared to the other worldwide lifters , I had the second highest total. I was best lifter in the 40-44-age class, and top 10 overall.
Last weekend, I competed in the USAWA Old Time Strongman Championship. I’ve won this event twice, but last year was beaten on formula by a lighter lifter. This year was more of the same, only this time it was to an older lifter. I had the highest mark on ¾ lifts and the highest total, but took second on formula again. The highlight of the day was hitting a 313 lb. dumbbell to shoulder. It was a grueling lift which left me bruised from shin to shoulder, but it was a success as I set the all-time record in this discipline.
I will compete next in the Postal Championships in December and have set my sites on the 2018 Heavy Lift Championships. I am also hoping to make it to the National Championship in 2018. I would like to thank Metabolic Technologies and TSI (makers of HMB and PEAK ATP) for their continued support of my strength endeavors.
